Metron Aviation Opens New Jersey Office to Advance NextGen Research and Collaboration with FAA Tech Center

Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey— December 8, 2011— Metron Aviation, a subisidiary of Airbus, announced today the opening of its office in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey near the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) William J. Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC). The office will open on December 12th, 2011 and will be celebrated with a ceremonial ribbon cutting by New Jersey Congressman Frank A. LoBiondo.

Metron Aviation has opened the office to further research and development support of the FAA’s Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) initiatives. Metron Aviation is a prime contractor on Systems Engineering 2020 (SE-2020) SIR1 Set-Aside contract, the FAA’s strategic program for implementing Next Gen. Metron Aviation’s research and engineering capabilities are greatly enhanced with proximity to the WJHTC. The WJHTC offers unmatched laboratory and data interface capabilities, essential to validation and verification of emerging NextGen concepts and prototypes.

“Our facility in New Jersey will allow us to focus more resources and to fully support the research that takes place at the WJHTC to ensure the success of NextGen,” said Jim Gaughan, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Advanced Research and Engineering, Metron Aviation.

The opening of the New Jersey office also enables Metron Aviation to support job growth in the southern New Jersey area. This new facility provides ample research and engineering jobs while enhancing the capacity, efficiency and safety of our national airspace.

“I’ve long said that the FAA’s NextGen project is critical to South Jersey’s economic future, building upon the FAA Technical Center’s reputation as the premier facility for aviation research and development in the nation. National companies with deep roots in the aviation and security industries also recognize the strategic importance of having their operations here,” said Congressman Frank LoBiondo (NJ-02). “The opening of Metron Aviation’s office in Egg Harbor Township – and hiring of local engineers and support staff - is yet another sign of the force multiplier effect of NextGen for South Jersey.”
