Network Weather Resilience (EUROCONTROL)
Metron Aviation, in collaboration with Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI), developed the Network Weather Resilience tool and web-based display for EUROCONTROL. The tool provides predictive assessment of risks caused by a full spectrum of weather and other natural hazards, including en route and terminal convection, surface winds, ceiling and visibility, 3,000-foot winds, winter weather, volcanic ash, and space weather. Network Weather Resilience tool uses ensemble forecast data with a look-ahead horizon of at least 48 hours and weather translation models to predict airport and airspace hazards and alert stakeholders about associated risks to air traffic operations in Europe. The web-based display provides common situational awareness to all stakeholders and better coordination of migration strategies to reduce weather impacts.
