NIRS (Federal Aviation Administration)
Designed and deployed by Metron Aviation, the Noise Integrated Routing System (NIRS) performs large-scale modeling and analysis of noise impacts associated with current and planned aircraft routing within a regional study area. It is the FAA’s standard tool for regional projects covering multiple airports and large traffic volumes. Metron Aviation has recently extended its tool to include fuel consumption. The tool allows for a higher level assessment of potential noise impacts for a study area, requiring less commitment of time and resources to determine significant noise impacts. It is reshaping the way we evaluate and plan for noise around airports.
