The
Route Management Tool (RMT) was developed
for the FAA by Metron Aviation to manage and display
several route-related databases. Using RMT, users
manage the databases for both coded departure routes
(CDRs) and advanced navigation routes (ANRs). In
addition to viewing database information, users
can add to or modify the operational and staging
databases. CDRs are used to reduce coordination
time during severe weather or departure congestion
events and to standardize route coordination for
the user community. ANRs are advanced navigation
routes, which use the concept of area navigation
and eliminate the need for aircraft to over-fly
ground-based navigational aids. In addition, RMT
allows users to view released National Flight Data
Center (NFDC) tables such as preferred routes, location
identification and airway intersections.

The RMT centralized database and plan view display is accessible through a www server.
RMT centralized the CDR database and allowed global change on a route description element (e.g., SID/STAR numbers and jet route numbers). Because the CDR database is centralized, there is no database discrepancy among users, thus avoiding costly miscommunication on routes. RMT provides route validation capability as routes are modified or new routes are defined. RMT users can view, search/query, and download the database. RMT users can also view upcoming 56-day cycle CDR changes and prepare for those changes in advance.
RMT was initially deployed in
April 2000. The CDR database on RMT can be accessed
via CDMnet and/or via the FAA web server (www.fly.faa.gov).
