Policy Support

Furthering NextGen goals through policy analysis

Metron Aviation policy support addresses the effects of different policies on the environmental aspects of aviation in the areas of fuel, greenhouse gases, emissions and noise.  Highlights include:

  • Analysis for the Energy Policy Act (EPACT)  - Metron Aviation supports the FAA in the analysis of a congressionally-mandated study, related to EPACT.  This study addresses the emissions impacts of current and new operational initiatives, and the effects in the terminal area.  Efforts focus on usage of auxiliary power units during taxi, the effects of Airspace Flow Programs (AFP) and other initiatives such as schedule de-peaking.
  • Joint Planning and Development Office (JPDO) Environmental Constraints Analysis - Metron Aviation performs environmental constraint analyses, for the JPDO. These analyses entail noise, emissions and fuel-efficiency modeling and analysis for emerging NextGen operational initiatives and quantification of environmental constraints.
  • Environmental Scenario Screening - Metron Aviation is developing a suite of capabilities related to rapid exploration of the impacts of policy alternatives on environmental metrics in the areas of fuel, greenhouse gases, emissions and noise. The impact of changes in the composition of fleet, frequency of service and other factors can be explored at different levels of demand for service.
