Airbus Group has appointed John Kefaliotis President of Metron Aviation, the air traffic management (ATM) subsidiary of Airbus. Kefaliotis brings more than 40 years’ experience in ATM to Metron, which has been a global leader in air traffic flow management for more than two decades.

“With air traffic doubling every 15 years, and new technologies such as unmanned aerial systems entering the airspace, efficient and predictable air traffic management is crucial to managing traffic demand,” said Allan McArtor, Chairman and CEO of Airbus Group, Inc. “From his days as an air traffic controller to growing a business from zero to $230 million annual revenue, John has the right mix of experience and vision to ensure that Metron continues to lead the industry in managing these challenges.”

Kefaliotis’ expertise includes operational air traffic control, government services and systems contracting – particularly with the Federal Aviation Administration – and commercial and international aviation sales and business development. Kefaliotis previously held the roles of Vice President Next Generation Air Transportation Systems and Vice President International Strategy and Business Development at Exelis. In that capacity he successfully directed the deployment of the national Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast system, completing the deployment of national level infrastructure for the satellite-based aircraft surveillance system on time and on budget.

“Throughout my time in the industry, Metron has been considered a preeminent thought leader in ATM. I am excited to join the team and help shape the products and solutions for tomorrow’s air traffic needs,” Kefaliotis said.

Metron Aviation’s products and services increase airspace and airport efficiency, improve predictability and enhance safety on six continents. With a focus on reducing delays, decreasing fuel burn and reducing CO2 emissions, Metron Aviation is making the world’s skies more sustainable today to improve tomorrow’s operations.
